Day for Daniel Fun-Run
on 28 June 2018
Daniel Morcombe Foundation has joined forces with School Fun-Run to create the Day for Daniel Fun-Run on Friday, October 26 with the united goal of increasing awareness of child safety within Australian schools and raising money for the cause.
Schools are invited to host their own Fun-Run on Day for Daniel, the national day of action to raise awareness of child safety. Day for Daniel was created by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and the community is asked to wear red, talk about child safety and raise funding for the cause.
The Daniel Morcombe Foundation was created in 2005 by Bruce and Denise Morcombe after their 13 year-old son Daniel was abducted from a Sunshine Coast bus stop in 2003.
Since creating the Foundation, Daniel's parents have worked tirelessly to provide Australian children with the education, protection and support to be safe from abuse and risk of harm. The Foundation aims to remember Daniel's legacy and assisting young victims of crime.
School Fun Run Program Director Brendan Hopp said the partnership will enable School Fun Run to direct funds to a worthy foundation in the Australian community.
"School Fun Run is proud to unite with such an important cause and to help a Foundation that is instrumental in protecting and educating our children about their personal safety.
"We are looking for schools to get on board as foundation members and raise much-needed funds to ensure the Daniel Morcombe Foundation can continue to make the nation a safer place for all children."
Recently, St Patrick's College raised almost $92,000 through their School Fun Run and chose to donate the funds towards charitable causes.
Founder of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, Bruce Morcombe is hopeful the partnership with School Fun Run will instigate an influx in donations to fund the Foundation's future work in Australian schools and is encouraging Foundation schools to participate so this initiative can flourish.
"We are thrilled to partner with School Fun Run as yet another way of raising awareness and funds through the Day for Daniel Fun-Run on Day for Daniel," said Denise.
Australian schools are encouraged to call 1800 FUN RUN (386 786) to register their school. Schools will be provided sponsorship material to promote the event and to raise awareness of child safety messaging prior to the event day.
